Chicago Public Schools Declares Sex a “Social Construct”

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) implemented a required teacher training program that declared sex a social construct and threatened punishment if faculty didn’t use students’ preferred pronouns, according to an investigation by Fox News Digital.

The training program included a 104-slide PowerPoint presentation titled “Supporting Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender Nonconforming Students”, which claimed that “everyone has multiple, overlapping identities” and that sex is a construct assigned at birth.

“Gender and sex are socially constructed, meaning they’ve been created and enforced by the people in a society,” one slide from the presentation reads. It further went on to state that “the concepts of Gender and Sex are actually not rooted in biology. Instead, they are socially constructed, which means they have been created and enforced by people in a society.”

Another section of the presentation explicitly forbade teachers from informing parents about students who begin to claim that they are actually the opposite sex, declare a “gender identity,” or begin using different pronouns.

“Discussing a student’s transition with their parent or guardian without the student’s explicit consent is not permitted,” reads one of the slides,“Disclosure of this kind can create an unsafe situation for the student. This is both a legal and safety concern, and there is no age restriction on this guidance.”

The notes add that “[p]arental consent is not required for a student name, gender marker, or pronoun change.”

According to Fox News Digital, it is believed that the presentation was prepared by the Office of Student Health and Wellness, as it was credited on the first slide.

Documents leaked to the news site show the presentation on gender identity is much longer than other training videos at an estimated time of 70 minutes.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, one anonymous teacher said, “my school district is teaching false information about gender and sex to its employees — literally teaching them that it is all a social construct. … What type of education are we providing when we are articulating lies to our students in the name of keeping them comfortable?”

“The way that transgenderism and pronoun usage is celebrated within CPS (see this unlisted district video) doesn’t reflect just acceptance, tolerance, and affirmation. There is a celebratory feel surrounding it that prods students towards different pronoun usage and gender identities that they know will earn them special attention and congratulatory remarks from the adults in their world.”

As of 2019, LGBTQ+ History became a requirement in Pre K – 12 Social Science classes. According to the presentation, students are unable to opt out.

Last month, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) – which oversees all schools in the city – announced that restrooms would be “inclusive”, meaning that male students could enter female facilities based on self-declaration alone. CPS administrators directed school leaders to post signs outside of restrooms that make it “clear that our restrooms are open for use to anyone who feels comfortable in that space.”

In a tweet published on December 1, 2021, CPS announced the decision, saying, “We’re requiring all schools to adopt new signage to make our restrooms more inclusive. This is a big step forward for gender equity for our students and staff.” Responses to the announcement have been overwhelmingly negative, with some netizens implying that the situation places girls at risk of abuse by their male peers, with some citing the widely-publicized incident at a Loudoun County school wherein a male student in a skirt rape a schoolgirl in the girls’ restroom.

After the city of Chicago began implementing sex self-identification policies in women’s prisons beginning from 2011, a woman who claimed she had been raped by a male trans-identifying transfer was forced to deny the assault took place, then punished for filing a “false” complaint.
