GERMANY: Transgender Ex-Police Officer Sentenced To 39 Months In Prison For Rape of Teenage Girl

A former police officer in Germany has been sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison for the rape of a teen girl. Maja Schmid, who previously worked for the Federal Police Inspectorate in Rosenheim, was also found in possession of sexual abuse materials featuring children as young as 3 years old.

Schmid, 55, was sentenced on Tuesday at the Traunstein Regional Court after a trial that lasted a total of three days. While it was believed that Schmid would make a comprehensive confession that would spare the teenage victim from having to give a potentially traumatizing testimony in court, the victim was ultimately required to speak before the court, though did so over a video feed to maintain distance from the perpetrator.

While the details on the assault are limited due to the age of the victim, it is known that the girl is the daughter of one of Schmid’s friends, and that the assault occurred during a motorcycle roadtrip. It is unclear if the child’s parents were aware of this outing or gave permission for it to occur.

Schmid had previously targeted the girl for sexual abuse, sending her a pornographic WhatsApp message while on shift at the police station in 2024. The next year, he took the girl, then 15, on a motorcycle trip. After stopping at a restaurant on the A8 motorway near Irschenberg, Schmid approached the girl while she was in the female bathroom, pushed her against a wall, and raped her.

The indictment describes the teenager as being in shock immediately after the alleged assault. It says she was unable to respond in fear before Schmid left the cubicle. The girl then allegedly locked herself inside the bathroom and suffered what was described as a serious anxiety attack.

At the time of the attack, Schmid was already under investigation by cybercrime specialists at the Bamberg Public Prosecutor General’s Office, who had received a tip from a US-based organization indicating that Schmid may be in possession of child pornography. But Schmid’s fiancée was ultimately responsible for setting the assault investigation in motion after discovering predatory communications between him and the minor on his phone. The report resulted in Schmid’s devices being seized and analyzed.

Police found that Schmid had multiple devices containing thousands of child sexual abuse images and videos, some of them extremely graphic. The youngest children depicted were apparently only three or four years old.

Police also uncovered videos Schmid had recorded of himself sexually abusing a dog. However, the bestiality media was not taken into consideration in the verdict. According to the presiding judge, bestiality pornography is punishable only if it is intended for distribution.

Schmid was ultimately sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison. In explaining the verdict, the presiding judge took into account a letter of apology Schmid had written and his commitment to pay the victim €11,000 in compensation. The judge also insisted that, despite his crimes, Schmid was “not a pedophile.”

Throughout the case, Schmid’s identity was censored by German media. But though most German outlets blurred his face and various tattoos in an attempt to keep him anonymous, a photo posted by OVB Online and Rosenheim24 of Schmid in court showed him with an uncovered arm tattoo, and Reduxx managed to confirm his identity by cross-referencing the tattoo against an uncensored photo posted to his Facebook.

Schmid was previously profiled by Himmeblau on his classic Cadillac Coupé DeVille, which he often brought to various car shows in his region. In the article, Schmid is described as a “woman” with a “delicate soul.” The article also notes that Schmid is 6′ tall “without heels,” and had been a federal police officer for 35 years at the time of its publication.

Disturbingly, some German media outlets failed to note Schmid was a biological male, and instead referred to him simply as a “police woman” or “female police officer.” In one article, published on October 6 by Süddeutsche Zeitung, the case is included as an example of female sexual crimes.

“Statistically speaking, women are significantly in the minority as perpetrators in cases of this kind,” the Süddeutsche Zeitung article begins, “But women, too, can be violent, can inflict sexual violence on others, and can commit rape. Even as police officers.”

Schmid was reportedly held in a women’s jail for the first half of his pretrial detention, but was transferred to the men’s unit at Munich-Stadelheim prison earlier this year. His defense attorney has suggested that he is attempting to be moved back to a women’s facility.
