Trans-Identified Male Charged In The Murder Of His Father In Virginia Beach

A trans-identified male has been arrested on charges of stabbing his own father to death. Michael Aaron Horwitz, 34, stabbed Dr. Abbey Horwitz to death at his home in Virginia Beach on Saturday.

Horwitz, who identifies as a woman named “Norah,” was arrested on June 3 after police responded to a call at approximately 9 a.m. at a home in the upscale Birdneck Point neighborhood.

There, officers found Dr. Abbey Horwitz, 64, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency first responders rapidly arrived to the scene and attempted to stabilize the victim, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

His son was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and stabbing in the commission of a felony. Michael Horwitz was booked as a “female” by Virginia Beach Police, which used “she/her” pronouns to refer to him in their press release.

He appeared in court on Monday where he was assigned a public defender by the judge after stating he worked as a dishwasher and could not afford his own counsel.

The motive for the crime is currently unclear.

The deceased Dr. Horwitz was a dentist and well-respected member of his community. He served as the President of the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater and the President of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, and was known for doing community care dentistry.

According to the About Us section on his practice’s website, Dr. Horwitz had been married for 25 years and had three children. His biography features a years-old “Horwitz Family Photo” which appears to include his son prior to his gender transition.
