UK: Transgender Pedophile Caught With Trove Of Baby Rape Images Is Spared Jail

A transgender pedophile has been spared prison after being found in possession of extreme child sexual abuse materials, including those depicting babies being assaulted. Lucy Dean, was handed a suspended sentence as the judge praised his rehabilitative prospects.

Lucy Dean, who was referred to by feminine pronouns in most British news coverage, appeared at Chester Crown Court last week, where prosecutors told the court that he had downloaded more than 1,000 images of child pornography onto his phone over a 2-year period.

The 27-year-old was arrested at his home in Macclesfield last year after officers from Cheshire Police’s online child abuse investigation team received a trip indicating that his e-mail and IP addresses had been used to upload child sexual abuse images

An investigation into his devices found that Dean had 306 images in the most serious category A, including 224 videos, some of which showed babies in extreme pain being sexually assaulted. Officers also found 173 images in category B, and 53 videos and 525 images in category C.

Appearing in court, Dean faced three years in jail under sentencing guidelines after admitting one charge of possession of prohibited images of a child and three charges of making indecent images of children, in category A, B and C between August 2023 and June 2025.

The prosecutor noted that there was evidence that Dean had deliberately and repeatedly sought out child sexual abuse content.

“It is self-evident from some of these search terms that the defendant was seeking out pedophilia material,” Peter Hussey said. “There were images of babies being sexually abused, some clearly in distress. This is serious offending of its type. The case is aggravated by the very young age of some of those depicted in the images, their distress and the fact there is a large collection of moving content.”

But Judge Michael Leeming chose instead to issue a fully suspended sentence of 16 months.

In the United Kingdom, a suspended sentence indicates that the offender avoids jail completely and is instead released into the community and expected not to commit another offense within the timeframe of their conditions.

Dean was also ordered to complete 200 hours community service and must sign the Sex Offender Register for 10 years and be subject of a ten year sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).

According to the Manchester Evening News, despite issuing an extremely lenient sentence, Judge Leeming acknowledged that Dean’s crime was far from victimless.

“These are not victimless crimes. People downloading this sort of material stimulates the demand and encourages child abuse. These images and videos show that somewhere in the world, a child is being abused for the sexual gratification of people like you who resort to this sort of material.”

Leeming added: “A probation report indicates that you take full responsibility for your offending, that you did not seek to minimize in any way.”

Dean, who represented himself in court, told Leeming he had sought out counseling for his pedophilic desires, which Leeming praised as a “positive note.”

“You voluntarily engaged with interventions to address the risk this sort of thing happening again and you are privately funding these therapy sessions. In this case, I am satisfied that there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation but you will never come closer to receiving an immediate custodial sentence.”
