A trans-identified male is facing charges of voyeurism and tampering with evidence after being caught photographing a woman in the female restroom at a corporate office in Northwest Arkansas. According to police, content retrieved from his electronic devices suggests he “may have a fetish related to urination and/or bathrooms.”
Cameron Pershall, 45, also known as Natalie Hannah Pershall, was first arrested by Lowell Police on May 22 in relation to an incident that occurred at the JB Hunt Corporate Office on July 28 of last year.
According to the affidavit, the alleged victim, an employee of JB Hunt, was using the female restroom when she looked to the left side of the stall and noticed a cell phone being held below the stall divider wall.
The woman claims that a photo appears to have been taken of her after she witnessed the camera pointing in her direction. She immediately confronted the voyeur, calling out “did you just take a picture of me?” to which the person holding the camera replied “no.”
According to the affidavit, the woman recognized the person holding the camera as Pershall, and security video footage confirmed that Pershall had been “brandishing a cell phone on the day of the incident matching to the description of the device given by [the woman].”
The incident was then brought to the attention of JB Hunt Human Resources, who interviewed Pershall about the incident. During the interview, Pershall reportedly explained that he went into the restroom due to a panic attack, and that his hands were shaking so bad that he dropped his phone, catching it just before it hit the ground.
After a police report was filed, detectives spoke to Human Resources and attempted to recreate Pershall’s version of events but were unable to do so. Police subsequently seized multiple electronics from Pershall’s home, including several storage devices, a computer tower containing two separate hard drives, and an iPhone.
Upon a thorough examination of the devices, detectives believed there was strong evidence to suggest that Pershall had attempted to “wipe” both the iPhone and portions of his computer hard drive in an attempt to conceal evidence. Detectives also found internet searches in the history of Pershall’s devices that included “what information can be recovered from iPhone after factory reset” and “how to nuke a hard drive.”
The detectives contacted Apple to restore the deleted contents of his devices and found some photographs, including one that showed an unidentified person with their pants down sitting on a toilet. This photo plus other data from his devices led detectives to conclude that “Pershall may have a fetish related to urination and/or bathrooms.”
Following his arrest, Pershall was booked to Benton County Jail and charged with video voyeurism and tampering with physical evidence. He is due to appear in court today for a hearing.
Despite Pershall being recorded by police as “male,” local media reporting on the incident referred to Pershall as a “woman.” KARK, 4029 News, KNWA and Fox16 have all used headlines involving the phrase “woman accused of voyeurism” in their reports while failing to mention that Pershall is a man who self-declared a transgender status.
According to Benton County court records, Pershall appears to have first filed an application to change his name from Cameron to Natalie in 2016.
Historic social media shows Pershall maintained a WordPress blog titled 72Pins in which he offered his insights on cultural matters and wrote short horror-style stories.
On the blog, he describes himself as “podcaster, amateur pop culture pundit, TurboGrafx fanboy and lover of fine kusoge.” Multiple entries on the blog are short horror stories, and, in one from 2015, Pershall refers to himself as a “little girl” in his narration.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 21, 2023: The Lowell Police Department responded to an inquiry from Reduxx on the nature of the case, with Lieutenant Chris Collins providing additional information on the investigation.
“The Lowell Police Department was initially contacted by the victim on July 31, 2022. At that time, the victim stated the incident occurred on July 28, 2022,” Collins explained, noting that the months-long delay between the victim’s report and Pershall’s arrest was in part due to the deep investigation that had to be conducted into Pershall’s electronic devices.
“It can sometimes take weeks or months to get data back pursuant to search warrants from big tech companies, such as Apple, Google, social media companies,” Collins said. “It can also take quite a bit of time to perform extractions of cell phones, laptops, desktop computers, and passcode-protected storage media. Unfortunately, there can be a significant backlog for the agencies with digital forensics units we rely upon for their invaluable assistance in performing digital extractions and detailed analysis of devices. In addition to the backlog, there can sometimes be a significant amount of time needed to ‘crack’ the devices when/if the devices are passcode-protected.”
Collins stated that there appeared to be some hesitancy from the prosecutor’s office, as “agonizingly cautious considerations” were taken to ensure the case was solid enough to bring before court.
Collins also clarified that “Pershall was booked in as a male” and that “in most of Arkansas, biological reality still takes precedence over ideology, fantasy, or delusion.”
