Biden Administration Honors Male Trans Activist With Women’s Award To Mark International Women’s Day

The Biden administration honored a male trans activist with an International Women Of Courage Award today at a White House ceremony intended to mark International Women’s Day.

While 11 of the awards were presented today, most to prominent women’s rights advocates from around the globe, one of them was bestowed upon Alba Rueda, a trans-identified male “LGBTQIA+” activist.

Rueda is the current Argentinian Special Envoy on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, and was the first trans-identified politician in Argentina. He was also previously Argentina’s first undersecretary of diversity policies in the Women, Gender and Diversity Ministry.

Rueda is noted for his career-long campaign to push for gender self-identification laws. He was one of the architects of the Gender Identity Act 2012, which allowed Argentinians to self-identify as the opposite sex on official documents. The law was the first of its kind globally and paved the way for many more countries to follow suit.

In Argentina, people are not limited to “male” or “female” identification, and can even request “non-binary” status on their legal documentation.

Since the law passed, data shows that women who changed their gender to either male or non-binary were “comparatively younger” than men who legally changed their gender to female. 62% of people who have changed their gender legally in Argentina were male, with 35% being female.

Rueda was also the face of a successful campaign to pass a bill designating 1% of public sector jobs to people who identify as transgender, transvestite, or transsexual.

In 2021, Rueda gave an address on “Women Leaders as Advocates for Equality and Inclusion of LGBTI Persons,” where he called for a “trans-feminist movement” which opposes “cis-sexism” and “trans-misogyny.”

Rueda advocates for “LGBTQ+” inclusion in sports and for people to be legally recognized on the basis of their “gender identity” rather than their sex. Although his “trans-feminist” movement primarily focuses on the interests of trans-identified males, Rueda did mention reproductive rights for all “pregnant persons” which would recognize the rights and autonomy of “women, lesbians, trans men and non-binary persons.”

This is not the first time Rueda has received a women’s recognition. In 2021, he was featured on the BBC’s “Top 100 Women” list.

Using feminine pronouns to refer to him, BBC praised Rueda for suing a Catholic archbishop who had declined to change his church records to match his self-identified gender identity.

Rueda’s International Women of Courage award was presented at the White House today by First Lady Jill Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to mark International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, which lasts the month of March.

But the United States was not the only country to have politicians lauding biological males today. British Member of Parliament Jeremy Corbyn took to Twitter to recognize “Sylvia Rivera & Marsha P. Johnson” in honor of International Women’s Day, writing: “Solidarity with those working together to protect the rights of all women.” Both Rivera and Johnson were self-identified gay male drag queens.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau similarly took the opportunity to tweet in support of trans-identified males, writing: “… I want to be very clear about one more thing: trans women are women.”

Women from both Canada and abroad took to the replies to slam Trudeau for his comments, with his post quickly racking up more negative replies than ‘likes.’

“You may believe that men magically transform into women simply by self-declaration of a woman soul, but the rest of us live in the real world where women are female and humans cannot change sex. How dare you insult [Canadian] women in such a disgraceful way on International Women’s Day,” journalist Mia Ashton wrote in response.

“You don’t empower women by removing their safeguards and protections. You don’t empower women by letting men define them, speak for them or pretend to be them. What happened to you?” another user asked.

Some prominent Canadian public figures also took aim at Trudeau for his comments. People’s Party leader Maxime Bernier wrote: “It’s not ‘anti-transgender hate’ @JustinTrudeau. Stop labeling everything you disagree with as hate.”

Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson similarly took issue with Trudeau’s comments, posting a photo of a young woman who had undergone an elective double mastectomy and commenting: “This is on you, @JustinTrudeau, and millions will never forget it. The day of reckoning is approaching.”

Peterson included a link to a BBC article in his tweet reporting on the disgraced Tavistock youth gender clinic.
