Dutch Democratic Party Youth Wing Suggests Pedophilia Be Taught in Schools As A “Sexual Orientation”

The official website for the Young Democrats, the “independent” youth wing of the Dutch Democratic Party (D66), has published statements sympathetic to pedophilia, endorsing the production of “virtual child pornography,” and even teaching pedophilia as a sexuality in schools.

Young Democrats, the “nicest progressive liberal political youth organization in the Netherlands,” is under fire after detailed minutes from a past General Meeting surfaced and began circulating in which they decreed that “pedophilia is a sexual orientation that one is born with.” The Young Democrats allow membership to those aged 12-30 and has chapters in several cities throughout the nation.

The youth organization suggested that pedophilia ought to be introduced to minors as a sexual orientation within sex education curriculum in schools in order to provide “insight and nuance” to the stigmatized “identity.” During the meeting, the youth organization concluded that “education should be given at secondary schools about pedophilia as a sexual orientation.”

Another concern the youth wing noted is that “many pedophiles consider suicide,” as “pedophilia is not a respected identity.” Because pedophiles “struggle,” insight and nuance regarding pedophilia can be achieved through education.

Like many other political organizations, the Young Democrats establish their positions on various topics through General Meetings wherein members vote on resolutions. While the initial decree on pedophilia was made at the June 2019 General Meeting, the statement still exists on the website on their “Diversity and Participation” page, amongst dozens of other policy resolutions they have adopted over the years.

Currently featured on the Young Democrats website is a statement which implies that children and teens can identify as pedophiles, with the organization claiming that “a lack of a shared group identity hits adolescents even more.”

During the same general meeting, the youth group also made a resolution on child sexual abuse materials. YD noted that under current laws “making, possessing, viewing and distributing virtual child pornography is an offense,” but resolved their support for the existence of “virtual child pornography,” arguing that “viewing virtual child pornography could possibly help pedophiles get to know their feelings without harming other people.”

In addition to their policy resolutions on pedophilia, part of the Young Democrats advocacy position is the promotion of medical interventions euphemistically called “gender-affirming care.”

In their Diversity and Inclusion declaration, YD asserts that: ”Transition care must be available to everyone with gender dysphoria. This care must be collectively insured.”

The YD, in accordance with views promoted by the general Democratic Party (D66), calls for more hospitals to be “able to carry out treatments,” referring to so-called ‘sex reassignment’ procedures. They call on their central government to be “responsible for arranging transitional leave nationwide.”

It is also clearly stated that “trans people” who do not undergo “physical transition” should still be able to “express their gender identity.” The YD note that children’s “emancipation” can be achieved when they receive “fair education” about LGBTQIA+ people. This notion is asserted under the premise that this education about “LGBTQIA+” people will “prevent discrimination.”

In another meeting from last year, the YD discussed a child protection legislation, the Safety at Schools Act (SSA). In February, the group concluded that the term ‘safety’ in the Safety at Schools Act “also includes the acceptance and emancipation of LGBTI pupils.” Their proposed amendments to the SSA creates a “legal basis for the…school boards to ensure a safe environment in schools,” which would mandate schools to enforce the “emancipation” of all students to express their sexuality and “gender identity” openly as children.

While the Young Democrats claim to be “independent,” it is affiliated with progressive liberal party D66, one of the Netherlands’ major parties.

The first openly trans-identified male representative in Dutch Parliament, Lisa Mianti van Ginneken, was elected in 2021 as a member of D66. He currently serves as a spokesperson for IT, privacy, family law, and mobility. He is also a member of several parliamentary committees, including those for Education and Culture, as well as Science, Finance, and Public Expenditure. He is listed as “female” on the official House of Representatives website.

Notably, van Ginneken was previously the Chair of Transvisie for five years, serving from 2017 to 2021. The group lobbies for halting children’s puberty with the use of drugs in a process that has been referred to as “chemical castration” by some medical professionals.

During his first year as an elected official for the Democratic Party, 2021, van Ginneken filed an amendment to the Transgender Act “which would make it possible for non-binary persons to have an “X” in their government ID as their gender designation without the intervention of a judge.”

In 2017, the Young Democrats were similarly advocating for the abolition of sex indicators on travel documents. They noted that “not everyone identifies as male or female. There are also people who choose to present themselves as female on some days and as male on other days. Choosing a gender and gender registration is difficult for them.”

In 2021, another Member of Parliament representing D66 resigned amid controversy that he had been sexually inappropriate with several young boys. The post which kicked off the controversy was made by a 17-year-old speaking up on behalf of the victims. He stated that Smeets would “often reach out to underage boys” on Twitter, and said that he had known “dozens of boys” approached by him. The teen further lamented the fact that Smeets, who he called a “pedo,” was representing “LGBTI rights” in an official capacity.

At the start of this year, the Dutch constitution was amended to include “disability” and “sexual orientation” in its criteria for non-discrimination for Article 1.  The amendment was devised in part by members of D66, leading some to speculate whether pedophilia is now considered a protected characteristic by the political party.

The Netherlands, which in 2006 was the first nation to implement the use of puberty-halting drugs on children, has a troubling history of pro-pedophilia advocacy being pushed by both government and public figures.

In 2006, a Dutch court rejected an attempt by child safeguarding campaigners to ban the Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity party (PNVD), which again sought to drop the age of consent from 16 to 12, and lobbied to legalize child pornography. The group, founded by Marthijn Uittenbogaard, additionally campaigned for pornography to be shown publicly on television. PNVD was disbanded by the government in 2014.

A widely-cited Dutch academic and former professor at the University of Amsterdam who has written extensively in support of pedophilia defended their political groups. Gert Hekma co-created a petition addressed to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands demanding the government refrain from banning Uittenbogaard’s organization.

In a 2021 academic anthology titled Histories of Sexology: Between Science and Politics, Hekma emphasized that during the 1970’s, the Dutch Movement for Sexual Reform campaigned for “minority groups… the main ones in the NVSH being transsexuals and transvestites, sadomasochists, exhibitionists and pedophiles.”

Attempts to lower the age of consent to 12 were unsuccessful, Hekma said, “due to a growing feminist concern.”

Another influential pro-pedophile activist, Nelson Maatman, attempted to revive the PNVD, and in February of 2020, Maatman gave a talk at the University of Amsterdam arguing in defense of pedophilia. The University of Amsterdam later issued an apology for inviting Maatman as a guest lecturer. Last year, Maatman was arrested in Mexico City and found to be in possession of 4 terabytes (4000GB) of child sexual abuse material.
