Violent Necrophiliac Transferred to Women’s Prison in Canada

A trans-identified male currently serving life in prison for the 1995 murder and post-mortem sexual assault of a woman has been transferred to a female correctional facility in Ontario, Canada.

On April 22, the Parole Board of Canada issued a decision in the case of Catherine Lynn — a trans-identified male incarcerated for the 1995 murder of a woman in her apartment. Lynn physically assaulted the victim before slashing her throat and raping her corpse. Lynn, whose birth name is still being verified, had applied for parole and was rejected on the grounds that he continued to be an “undue risk” to society.

At the time, the decision noted that Lynn had applied for transfer out of his current facility, but had redacted the type of facility he was seeking to be moved into, ostensibly in an attempt to obscure the fact Lynn was transgender and had been housed in a male prison.

But, according to Heather Mason, a former inmate-turned-women’s rights advocate, a female inmate at the grand Valley Institution for Women has confirmed Lynn is now in the facility, just months after the Parole Board noted his desire to be transferred.

On September 13, Mason announced on her Twitter that she had received documents from the Parole Board confirming what her source in the Institution had reported. Mason, whose focus is on supporting incarcerated women in Canada, provided those documents to Reduxx for review.

In their decision, the Parole Board of Canada noted that Lynn, now 68, had initially lied to police about the crime he committed after being arrested in September of 1995.

“At first, you said you found the victim deceased in her apartment, however, you later admitted to police that you killed the victim.” Lynn would eventually admit to having committed the horrific slaying, and would go on to plead guilty to second degree murder.

In denying his parole, the Board also mentions Lynn’s previous incidents of violence, which included a 1974 conviction for Assault Causing Bodily Harm and a withdrawn 1993 charge for assault against a prostituted woman. The decision makes specific note of Lynn’s size and strength, as well as his history of violence against women. When Lynn began identifying as transgender is currently unknown.

Prior to the 1995 murder, Lynn had spent “a number of years” in psychiatric facilities.

While some parts of the document are redacted, Mason managed to provide clarity using discussions she has had with inmates at Grand Valley. The incarcerated women reportedly told Mason that Lynn had been seeking to study how the women “walked, talked, and acted” as part of his transition plan. He has also been approved for ‘gender affirmation’ surgery.

An excerpt from the Parole Board of Canada decision.

The decision also notes that Lynn has had an extensive history of problematic behavior while incarcerated, noting that his record is “marred by a number of incidents related to inappropriate sexual behavior with others, poor conflict resolution, and inappropriate dress.”

Male inmates who identify as ‘women’ in Canada have been able to request transfer to female facilities since 2017, when Bill C-16 was passed. The Bill incorporated gender identity and expression as protected characteristics for which a person could not be discriminated against.

While the Correctional Services of Canada has previously attempted to keep extremely high-risk male offenders out of women’s institutions under the pretense of being inadequate to prevent escape, a precedent set in 2019 in the Boulachanis v. Canada case effectively rendered that caveat ineffective.

Jamie (born John) Boulachanis was charged with the murder of Robert Tanguay in 2016. Boulachanis, who was involved in organized crime, killed Tanguay after becoming paranoid that he was a police informant, and hid his body in a sand pit for almost 2 decades. During his trial, Boulachanis managed to escape immediate custody multiple times, and was thus considered a flight risk too difficult to manage for the often-lower security women’s institutions. Boulachanis sued the Canadian government for the transfer after coming out as transgender in 2018, and was eventually granted it by a court under the basis of gender discrimination in 2020.

While that ruling was initially overturned by the Federal Court of Appeal, Boulachanis eventually underwent taxpayer-funded ‘gender affirming’ surgery and was formally transferred to a women’s facility in 2021.

Since then, there have been multiple cases of violent male offenders seeking transfer or being housed in women’s jails and prisons.

Last year, Yostin Murillo, 25, was sentenced to life in prison for the violent murder and rape of Toronto nurse, Rhoderie Estrada.

In 2018, Murillo, along with accomplice David Beak, broke into Estrada’s home in East York, Ontario with the intention of robbing the residence. Estrada was sexually assaulted while her three young daughters slept just meters away down the hall.

As she continued to resist, the two predators bludgeoned her in the head multiple times with a metal bar – striking her at least eight times, and leaving her face “unrecognizable” to her husband when he came home later that night from work.

Victim Rhoderie Estrada and Yostin Murillo.

Estrada’s husband reportedly had attempted to clear his dying wife’s mouth of blood and perform CPR in a last-ditch effort to keep her alive until emergency first-responders arrived, but, according to court testimony, “her teeth kept falling out.”

Murillo was arrested after being found in possession of Estrada’s iPhone, which was still stained with her blood.

Despite Murillo having a lengthy history of violence against women – including the assault of another woman with a metal bar on a separate occasion — he was transferred to a women’s jail within the provincial system during his trial. Notably, Murillo had asked for his alleged ‘gender identity’ to only be used for the purposes of his jail placement and to remain obscured from the court.

Murillo’s current placement is unverified, but there had been discussion and debate following his trial surrounding the possibility he would seek transfer to a women’s correctional facility.

At the end of August, Reduxx reported that a violent male sex offender had begun identifying as transgender and had requested leniency in his sentence as a result.

Jody Burke, who has been convicted of sexual assault on three separate occasions, has stated his violent past actions were prompted by a “sexuality crisis” and “gender dysphoria.”

Speaking to Reduxx on Burke’s case, Heather Mason predicted he would request transfer to a women’s correctional facility.

“I believe he will try to gain access to the women’s prison,” Mason speculated. “If he is denied, he will start a Human Rights claim that opens the door to him receiving money because [Correctional Services of Canada] has discriminated against his gender identity.”

Trans Authority Cites Pedophilic Forum, Reduces Age Restrictions for ‘Puberty Blockers’ and Genital Surgeries

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) has released a finalized version of their updated Standards of Care guidelines (SOC8). Among the recommendations include reducing the age at which children can receive “puberty-blocking” drugs and cross-sex hormones to 9 years old. Age restrictions on surgical interventions have also been relaxed.

In a change from previous protocols, no specific minimum age is recommended as a cut-off point.

WPATH had previously issued specific guidance on age. Hormone treatments were recommended from 14 years old and up, cosmetic mastectomies at 15+, breast augmentation and “facial feminization surgeries” at 16+, and 17+ for surgeries of the reproductive system, like hysterectomies. They had also recommended an age of 18+ for phalloplasties, the surgical creation of a non-functioning penis.

But on September 15th, WPATH abruptly issued a correction removing those specific age guidelines, despite growing criticism and concern over the medicalization of gender non-conforming children.

The new criteria are raising concerns on subjectivity, as they appear to open the door for clinicians to halt a child’s puberty, place them on cross-sex hormones, or potentially offer surgeries once they have reached the period of development referred to as Tanner Stage 2, which occurs between 9-11 years of age.

In a section of the SOC8 guidelines titled “Summary Criteria for Adolescents,” WPATH states that “puberty-blocking agents” may be given to children who have begun Tanner Stage 2, which is reiterated under recommendations for “hormonal treatments.” With regards to surgeries, WPATH suggests a minimum of 12 months of “hormone therapy” before an individual can obtain “gender-affirming procedures, including breast augmentation, orchiectomy, vaginoplasty, hysterectomy, phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, and facial surgery.”

The decision to limit child medical “transition” to Tanner Stage 2 seems to have been at the behest of current WPATH president, Marci Bowers. Earlier this year, Bowers, who is a trans-identified male, stated in a panel discussion for Duke University that children whose puberty has been halted prior to Tanner Stage 2 will never have adult sexual function or experience orgasm.

“An observation that I had,” said Bowers, “every single child who was, or adolescent, who was truly blocked at Tanner stage 2,” which is the beginning of physical development, when hormones begin their work of advancing a child to adulthood, “has never experienced orgasm. I mean, it’s really about zero.”

According to the September 15 correction, the following statement was removed from the medical guidelines: “Importantly, for each gender-affirming intervention being considered, youth must communicate consent/assent and be able to demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of potential benefits and risks specific to the intervention.”

On the day of the document’s release, James Esses, a barrister and co-founder of Thoughtful Therapists, labelled the SOC8 guidelines as “one of the most shocking indictments of ideology infecting medicine that I have ever come across.”

Esses came to widespread notoriety in 2021 after being expelled from a Master’s program he had been working through with the intention of becoming a therapist. The expulsion came shortly after Esses launched a petition to the British government requesting evidence-based therapy for youth presenting with gender dysphoria be protected from criminalization under “conversion therapy” bans.

“Safeguarding of children is no more. Age limits for puberty blockers, hormones or surgery are removed, as long as a child has reached ‘Tanner Stage 2’ (which can be as young as 9). There’s no requirement for a child to have taken hormones prior to surgery ‘if not desired,'” wrote Esses on Twitter.

Speaking with Reduxx, Esses expressed horror and shock at the new SOC8 measures.

“The fact that an 8 or 9 year old could potentially be prescribed puberty blockers is terrifying. The fact that a 12 year old could have a double mastectomy is beyond horrific,” Esses said.

“The SOC also alienates parents by disregarding their concerns about medicalizing their children should their involvement be deemed ‘unnecessary’. The promotion of the dangerous practices of ‘chest binding’ and ‘genital tucking’ are a further cause for concern,” Esses added.

“Mental health has also been kicked to the curb with a strict statement that therapy should never be a pre-requisite for medication or surgery. Finally, the SOC promotes irreversible and experimental medication and surgery, regardless of the fact that there are ‘few outcome studies that follow youth into adulthood’  and ‘no clinical studies that have reported on profiles of adolescences who regret their initial decision.'”

Esses also explained that WPATH appears to be using euphemistic language to “obfuscate” the serious nature of these medical interventions. “The guidelines are filled with ideological language. Irreversible medication and surgery is ‘gender-affirming health care.’ Terms like ‘cisgender’ and the factually inaccurate ‘sex assigned at birth’ are used.”

Largely ignored is the fact the new criteria reflect the stated desires of a castration fetish forum, the members of which were found have been working intimately with WPATH in a Reduxx investigation published earlier this year. The site also hosts child sexual abuse fantasies that involved halting children’s development for pedophilic interests.

For decades, the group has lobbied the American Psychiatric Association for changes to diagnostic terminology. Surveys conducted within the forum on castration fetishism have been published by WPATH in an academic journal and presented at official conferences.

The SOC8 guidelines were created in partnership with academics who have been leading figures in the castration fetish forum for over twenty years. In particular, members of the forum contributed views towards a new section in the guidelines on the concept of eunuchs as a gender identity.

The Eunuch Archive, the forum which is directly named as a resource in WPATH’s newly-released SOC8, is home to nearly 10,000 fictional pornography stories of an extreme sadomasochistic nature.

As previously reported by Reduxx, many of these stories feature a theme of the rape, castration, torture, and killing of children.

“Like other gender diverse individuals, eunuch individuals may be aware of their identity in childhood or adolescence,” states the final version of the SOC8. “Due to the lack of research into the treatment of children who may identify as eunuchs, we refrain from making specific suggestions.”

A drop-down menu showing filters which include “cannibalism” and “minors having sex.”

In some of the stories, children with stunted puberty are raped by doctors. In others, children are castrated by force as part of a sadistic sexual torture ritual. Other themes include Nazi doctors experimenting on children by castrating and sexually abusing them. There are also erotic stories which describe young boys being given “feminizing” hormones, only to be sex trafficked during adolescence.

In May, Reduxx learned that three of the forum’s top members were academics who had been collaborating with WPATH on the most recent SOC8 guidelines. One of the site’s top administrators is Dr. Thomas W. Johnson, a Professor Emeritus at California State University in Chico. Johnson has been a leading member of the Eunuch Archive since 2001.

Johnson uses the moniker “Jesus” on the forum, where he regularly posts content including videos of genital surgeries which participants use as masturbation material.

Johnson has also published research based on surveys he has personally conducted with other members of the Archive. His long-term academic interests have included advocating for the expansion of the “transgender umbrella” to include men with sadomasochistic and even pedophilic castration fantasies. Johnson is credited as a committee member who helped shaped the new SOC8 on the WPATH website.

In addition to Johnson, Reduxx revealed two additional top forum members as academics similarly involved with WPATH — Dr. Richard Wassersug, a Canadian professor who has taught at Dalhousie, and Krister H. Willette.

On May 13, research by Johnson and Wassersug titled “Castration for Pleasure: Exploring Extreme Castration Ideations in Fiction” was published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

“The most popular [Eunuch Archive] stories link sexual gratification and romantic partnership with genital abuse. They are characterized by the absence of consent for genital ablations and multiple [sadomasochism]-related paraphilias,” note Johnson and Wassersug. “Many stories feature attraction to, and ablation of, the genitals of pubescent or adolescent males.”

Commenting on WPATH’s apparent collaboration with members of the archive, James Esses told Reduxx that it was “extremely concerning” that ‘eunuch’ was being introduced as a gender identity.

“Promoting the ‘castration’ of boys, particularly given many seek castration as a form of sexual fetish, and trying to bring it within the concept of gender identity in order to push irreversible surgery is abhorrent. The strong links with the Eunuch Archive, and the fact that the sole research regarding this topic appears to have come from this forum, is also of deep concern,” Esses said.

The class of drugs euphemistically referred to “puberty blockers” are the same medications given to chemically castrate recidivist sex offenders, and sex abusers of children in particular. This has caused some medical professionals to directly state that the use of these drugs in children is the “chemical castration” of minors.

Ontario High School Defends “Fetishistic” Large Bust-Wearing Teacher

The Ontario High School at the center of controversy for having a male teaching young students while donning a large prosthetic bust has issued a full defense of the teacher in a newly-leaked email sent to parents.

On September 16, Reduxx confirmed the identity and employment status of the subject of viral images and videos which depicted a male instructor teaching students while wearing an unnaturally large prosthetic bust, complete with prominently protruding nipples.

While the images and videos had circulated for a few days prior, there was widespread confusion and disbelief as to whether or not the images were real, or, as some speculated, part of an elaborate hoax or comedy sketch.

But Reduxx managed to confirm that the shocking media could be traced back to Oakville Trafalgar High School (OTHS) in Ontario, Canada. The subject of the photos is Kayla Lemieux, a Manufacturing Technology instructor who allegedly began identifying as a woman last year. Some social media users claimed Lemieux’s birth name was “Stephen Hanna” after Twitter posts were circulated from users purporting to be students. While Hanna is also an instructor at OTHS, he is not the individual in the viral images.

Reduxx had contacted OTHS for comment, but was declined any answers. The administrator did, however, confirm that Lemieux was an active employee at the school.

A photo of Lemieux taken by a student and shared on Snapchat.

Following the viral news, OTHS has now issued an email statement to parents in which they defend Lemieux’s employment status in the name of inclusivity.

“We are aware of discussion on social media and in the media regarding Oakville Trafalgar High School. We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate to our community that we are committed to establishing and maintaining a safe, caring, inclusive, equitable and welcoming learning and working environment for all students and staff,” the email reads.

The school defers to the Ontario Human Rights Code, suggesting that any concerns about Lemieux would be akin to discrimination.

“We strive to promote a positive learning environment in schools consistent with the values of the HDSB and to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students, staff and the community, regardless of race, age, ability, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, socioeconomic circumstances or body type/size.”

The school’s defense of Lemieux comes after international outcry following widely circulated photos and videos of the teacher posted to social media. In all of the photos, Lemieux pairs his prosthetic bust with a very tight shirt, and short-shorts or skirts.

The response to the news that the Lemieux was an active teacher of young students was met with overwhelming backlash, with people noting that his appearance was not appropriate in a school environment where children were present.

Many took to trying to get the attention of the Ontario Minister of Education, and the Premier of the province, Doug Ford.

Others also expressed offense at that Lemieux appeared to be mimicking a highly pornographic representation of a woman.

“This is so insulting it just makes me lose all faith in people. How can one single woman look at this and see it as anything but the gross dehumanization of our entire sex class?” Twitter user @alohabetty wrote.

Despite the concerns, local media outlet BlogTO quickly condemned the outcry, comparing Lemieux’s large prosthetic breasts to female educators facing misogynistic policing for their body shape or outfits.

Oakville Trafalgar High School is overseen by the Halton District School Board (HDSB), which has begun promoting gender identity ideology in schools in recent years.

In October 2021, HDSB released guidelines regarding Gender Identity and Gender Expression in Schools.

UPDATE 9/19/22: This article has been edited to provide clearer wording surrounding the widespread use of the name “Stephen Hanna.” Some individuals identifying themselves as students have claimed on social media that Kayla Lemieux was previously known to OTHS as “Stephen Hanna,” but that has not been verified independently by Reduxx. The name Kayla Lemieux has been confirmed as being associated with the individual in the photos and videos.

UPDATE 9/20/22: The Halton District School Board has now stated that Kayla Lemieux, confirmed to be the individual in the viral images, was not previously known as Stephen Hanna.

While the HDSB is now attempting to claim they do not know the identity of the individual in the viral media, their own staff directory had been used by Reduxx as a reference when determining the teacher’s identity and employment status.

As of this update’s writing, HDSB has ended public access to the staff directory for OTHS faculty.

Transgender Predator Caught in Pedophile Sting While Trying to Meet 13-Year-Old, Claimed Gender Identity Made Him “Lonely”

A transgender pedophile was caught in a pedophile sting conducted in Colorado last week by predator hunters after the man had attempted to meet a 13-year-old girl for the purposes of “teaching” her about sex.

News of the sting first premiered on September 13 on a YouTube account belonging to independent child safeguarding group Colorado Ped Patrol (CPP). The 29-minute video shows CPP head Thomas Fellows confronting a man at a McDonald’s in Weld County, Colorado, on September 7, along with his team.

The alleged pedophile is named by CPP as Ronald “Roni” Jensen, 61, who arrived at the sting location wearing a light blue dress, an auburn wig, sunglasses, and block-heeled sandals. Jensen had been under the impression he would be meeting with a 13-year-old girl, but had in fact been speaking with an adult decoy associated with CPP.

Jensen was met by the CPP team at the eatery’s doorway, with Fellows immediately asking him why he was there and who he was attempting to meet. The team filmed the exchange on body cameras and phones and gave the man the option to have the conversation outdoors to avoid making a disturbance inside, which Jensen agrees to after seeing Fellows had a dossier of evidence on him.

At first, Jensen feigned innocence to the nature of CPP’s sting, claiming his intentions with the 13-year-old were innocent. When asked what he planned to do with the girl, Jensen claims he was set to take her “shopping,” but as Fellows presses Jensen on the more sexual messages he exchanged with the decoy, Jensen begins to argue that there was nothing fundamentally wrong with his desire to become romantic with a minor.

When asked about his stated intention to kiss a 13-year-old girl, he replies, “Kissing? There’s nothing wrong with that.”

He also denies offering to bring the girl an adult toy, writing the allegation off with the claim he had meant a “fidget spinner,” a non-sexual toy.

When asked about messages he sent to the decoy in which he promised to “teach” the child about sex, Jensen asserts he meant “verbally.”

During the sting, Jensen becomes increasingly defensive and irate, and is seen aggressively squaring up to Fellows while pointing a finger in his face. Fellows responds by threatening to defend himself using pepper spray if he is forced to.

At one point during the confrontation, Jensen begins to plead for sympathy, claiming he would never offend again. He appeared to justify his apparent pedophilic attractions by deferring to his gender identity, and suggesting that his communication with the decoy was a symptom of loneliness.

“I’m a very lonely person. This, being this [indicates to himself], you don’t have friends, and I get desperate for friends, it’s all I want…I don’t have friends, people don’t like this, this is me- I’m in the wrong body! People don’t like me, as a man, and I’m desperate to find friends,” Jensen explains.

Fellows replied, “People don’t like you as a man?”

“No, they don’t. I seem to find more people like me as a woman than as a man,” Jensen said.

But soon after, Jensen begins to argue in favor of pedophilia by suggesting it was normalized in the past.

“150 years ago, 13 was nothing…” Jensen said, referring to age, “The only reason it’s changed is because of the puritans and the church.”

“So do you think it’s wrong?” Fellows asked.

“I don’t necessarily agree with the law.”

During the confrontation, Colorado Ped Patrol also revealed Jensen had been subject to a previous rape allegation from a young woman. There were no convictions associated with that report.

Speaking to Reduxx, CPP predator hunter Thomas Fellows says the sting his group conducted on Jensen was the closest he had ever been to having to defend himself physically.

“That was the first time we have ever had to pull the pepper spray out,” Fellows says, “It was because of how he approached me. There was a wall behind me. So when he got in my face, I had no place to go.”

Thomas Fellows [L] confronting Ronald “Roni” Jensen.

Colorado Ped Patrol is an independent child safeguarding group that was established 18 months ago. So far, the CPP team has facilitated 233 stings, 117 arrests, and 40 convictions with many more cases pending. Fellows says he has 20 team members all over the world, and, despite the group’s name, has conducted stings in over a dozen states outside of Colorado.

The team operates decoy accounts across all social media and dating sites, where they wait for predators to reach out to them before initiating evidence-gathering. All of CPP’s decoy’s are above the age of 18, and use profile photos of themselves “aged-down” using applications like FaceApp.

Fellows explains that he and his team have learned how each county’s police force operate, and that they often take factors like police response times and behavior into consideration when planning out when to involve law enforcement.

He says that in Weld County, where Jensen’s sting was conducted, they often do not call police in advance as they have experience with officers encouraging them to hand over their case, but then leaving the predators walking.

“They’ve taken our cases and told us to stop, and then nothing is ever done. Instead of calling them ahead of time, we call them when we are out there because we don’t feel like anything is being done,” Fellows explains, “So we have started calling them when we are already out there, and we have had a much, much better response.”

On Jensen’s case, Fellows says he was not anticipating an immediate arrest, but does have confidence Jensen will be detained in the coming days.

“The evidence is pretty solid, I think he will be … Of course it would have been better if he was arrested on the spot, but I wasn’t expecting it.” But Fellows says allowing suspected pedophile to return to their homes pending potential charges or arrest comes with its own risks, primarily that of the predator destroying crucial evidence.

“Of course they’re going to erase their stuff. Police might say ‘well we can recover it,’ but what if they throw their phone away? You can’t recover something from a phone that’s not there. Then that evidence is gone.”

On safeguarding against predators, Fellows encourages parents to keep a close eye on their children’s whereabouts on the internet.

“It’s all about awareness. Check your kids’ devices. The more the parents know, the safer their kids are going to be.”

Thomas Fellows [L] enfrentándose a Ronald “Roni” Jensen.

Ontario High School Teacher Seen Wearing Massive Prosthetic Bust to Class

Photos and videos out of a Canadian High School are going viral as they show a male teacher wearing what appears to be large, prosthetic breasts in full view of young students.

Shocking media first began to circulate on Twitter earlier this week, with multiple accounts sharing a mobile phone video and stills of a shop teacher demonstrating how to use a circular saw.

The teacher is seen wearing an extremely prominent prosthetic bust, one which clearly outlines the nipples through his tight shirt. He is also donning a bright blonde wig and short-shorts.

Multiple photos and videos have surfaced of the same individual instructing young students, and in all of them he is wearing the oversized bust.

The media has been confirmed as originating from Oakville Trafalgar High School in Oakville, Ontario.

The man seen in the photos and videos is a Manufacturing Technology instructor who allegedly began identifying as a woman last year. The teacher now goes by the name Kayla Lemieux.

“The kids here most definitely don’t think its normal… but realistically we can’t say anything,” one student said on Twitter, “Last year, the teacher was a man. I don’t think the school can fire him.”

Lemieux is listed within the faculty directory on the OTHS website. His official school e-mail address is also connected to a Google account which has a photo visually verifying his identity.

Lemieux’s photo affiliated with his school e-mail address.

Reduxx reached out to OTHS administrators for comment, and they did confirm that Lemieux is currently employed at the school, but refused any further questions.

Oakville Trafalgar High School is overseen by the Halton District School Board (HDSB), which has begun promoting gender identity ideology in schools in recent years.

In October 2021, HDSB released guidelines regarding Gender Identity and Gender Expression in Schools.

“The Halton District School Board (HDSB) recognizes the rights of students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members to equitable treatment without discrimination based upon gender identity and gender expression,” reads the policy.

“The HDSB is committed to establishing and maintaining a safe, caring, inclusive, equitable and welcoming learning and working environment for all members of the school community including… staff… who identify as, or are perceived as … trans … and those who are questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity(ies).”

Child Sex Trafficking Victim Forced to Pay Restitution to Alleged Abuser’s Family

A teen girl who stabbed her alleged rapist to death has narrowly avoided prison, but will be forced to pay her assailant’s family $150,000 in compensation for his death.

Pieper Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa, was only 15 years old when she murdered Zachary Brooks, who was 37. The murder took place in 2020 after Lewis explained Brooks had sexually assaulted her.

While she was initially charged with first degree murder and faced up to 20 years in prison, Lewis pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and willful injury during her trial in June of 2021. On September 13, an Iowa court handed down a sentence of 5 years probation, 1,200 hours of community service, and a $150,000 fine to be paid out to Brooks’ family. Lewis has been in custody at the Polk County Jail since her arrest two years ago.

Lewis had experienced a life of hardship starting from a young age.

When Lewis was 3, she entered the foster care system where she experienced a somewhat typical childhood until she was in eighth grade. Following the separation of her foster parents, her foster mother became increasingly abusive, resulting in her fleeing from the home multiple times in 2020. She was sexually assaulted while staying in the Des Moines Youth Emergency Shelter after running away a second time, and left the home a third time after that.

At age 15, months before the murder, she had been homeless and sleeping in the hallway of a friend’s apartment complex. During her period of extreme vulnerability, she was taken in by a 40-year-old man who lived in the building. The man beat her, gave her cocaine, and attempted to have his relatives sexually assault her.

Lewis quickly returned to sleeping in the hallways, and shortly after met a 28-year-old musician only identified as “Mr. Brown.”

Brown quickly began to manipulate and traffic Lewis, forcing the 15-year-old to perform sex acts with strange men in exchange for drugs and money. Brown also signed the girl up for adult dating sites, and threatened to harm her if she did not meet the men he set her up with via the internet.

In May of 2020, Brown sent Lewis to stay at the apartment of Zachary Brooks over a weekend. Brooks plied Lewis with drugs and alcohol, and sexually assaulted her multiple times. Upon returning to Brown, Lewis told him she did not want to go see Brooks anymore, but he threatened her at knifepoint after arranging their next meeting.

The day before Brooks was killed, on May 31, Lewis had been sent to his apartment by Brown to perform sex acts for him in exchange for $50 in marijuana.

According to Lewis’ testimony at trial, she was told to strip upon arriving to Brooks’ apartment, given alcohol and drugs, and fell asleep shortly after. The teen awoke to Brooks sexually assaulting her. She screamed for him to stop, but he continued. Following the abuse, Lewis moved to leave the unit, but saw a knife on Brooks’ bedside table and snapped.

“I suddenly realized that Mr. Brooks had raped me yet again and (I) was overcome with rage,” Lewis wrote in her plea, submitted last year.

Lewis stabbed Brooks 30 times before fleeing, and was arrested the next day at Brown’s apartment.

She was initially charged with first degree murder, despite being considered a child sex trafficking victim under both federal and state law. Prosecutors never disputed the claim that she had been sexually assaulted or that she was a victim of sex trafficking. Last year, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Patrick Waymire, Iowa Department of Public Safety intelligence director, told the Iowa Register last year the relationship Lewis described with the 28 year old musician was a “perfect example” of human trafficking. Waymire, who was not involved directly in the investigation said that what Lewis described in her plea was “a perfect example of control.”

Pieper Lewis receiving her high school diploma while in custody. Her attorneys Paul White [L], and Matthew Sheeley [R] gave Lewis her certificate at the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center.

“Lewis said in her plea that she considered the musician her boyfriend. Traffickers make victims feel like they’re part of their family so they will never leave”, Waymire said.

Under Iowa law, anyone convicted of homicide must pay $150,000 in compensation. Lewis’s attorney attempted to argue against this due to the circumstances.

“By subjecting the defendant to human trafficking and sexual abuse on June 1, 2020, the decedent was at least 51% at fault for his own damages,” the filing said. “Such an award, as applied to this defendant and to these circumstances, would result in an excessive fine and cruel and unusual punishment.”

Despite the objection, Polk County District judge David M. Porter, who presided over the hearing, rejected the argument and maintained that Lewis would have to pay compensation.

Speaking to Reduxx on Lewis’ case, human trafficking survivor and journalist Eliza Bleu says she was deeply saddened by the news of the young girl’s ordeal. Bleu pointed out that Lewis’ life history, including homelessness, addiction, and being in the foster system, indicated multiple risk factors for becoming a victim of trafficking.

“Unfortunately, those are some of the most common vulnerabilities that we see amongst survivors in the United States. Those specific vulnerabilities would put an individual into ‘at risk’ categories for exploitation,” Bleu explains.

Since 2019, Bleu has accumulated over 100,000 followers on Twitter where she is a vocal advocate for those impacted by human trafficking. She is known for calling out flaws in the justice system and tech industry that make it easier for vulnerable people, especially youth, to be exploited.

While Bleu asserts that she believes in due process, and that individuals should not be allowed to get away with criminal activity simply because of their survivor status, she says that the facts of Lewis’ case lead her to believe the teen should never have been in custody.

“She was and is a child with deep trauma. She should have been offered services and not been in jail or prison.” Bleu also condemned the $150,000 fine Lewis is being forced to pay, commenting: “A minor survivor should never have to pay after being sexually abused. This is a horrible message to send to other victims and survivors as well. A survivor should never have to pay for defending themselves from abuse,” she says.

“The justice system is notoriously horrible to survivors. We call it the ‘abuse to prison pipeline.’ I speak very often about the ‘human trafficking industrial complex,’ and the justice system is a part of that. I have hope that things will change but at the very least we need to stop arresting survivors of human trafficking.”

Ultimately, Bleu says she is “proud” of Pieper Lewis, and applauds the girl’s bravery.

“She survived. She should be given a medal. There is one less child abuser to worry about now. I don’t believe in vigilante behavior, but I’m a strong believer in self defense.”

A GoFundMe established by Lewis’ former teacher was launched to help pay the $150,000 fee, and has since far surpassed its original goal. The organizer has stated that any additional funds raised will go towards helping Lewis start her own business, get an education, and “help other young victims of sex crimes.”

Lewis will have her life “greatly restricted” until aged 25 and will be forced to reside in at Fresh Start Women’s Center as part of her probation. She will also have to carry out 1,200 hours of community service, which will count towards $4,000 of the $150,000 fine.

“Mr. Brown,” the man who allegedly sex trafficked Lewis, is apparently still under investigation. In August, Polk County Attorney John Sarcone told the Des Moines Register that “law enforcement continues to actively investigate all aspects of this matter.”
